BAJANG RATU, 2020
This commissioned work was to create a wedding ceremony invitation. Inspired by Majapahit and the Bride & Groom’s Javanese roots, Candi Bajang Ratu was specifically chosen by the groom as the main portrait to symbolize sacredness and abundant blessings.
Outlined to create a colonial - sketch look, Candi Bajang Ratu was known as a pathway leading to Majapahit Palace. This poetic illustration narrates a couple visiting the sacred site in hopes of living a blessed and sacred marriage.
This illustration was then printed for wedding stationaries and as a backdrop for Ngunduh Mantu ceremony. This invitation design was carefully collaged to represent the Bride and Groom's Javanese roots and heritage. Keraton and Javanese qualities are represented through Candi Bajang Ratu, Batik Teruntum, Javanese Nobles, and flora.
