FRAGMENTATION, 2022

Waste has been an overwhelming problem in this new age, for where beauty is found, beauty is ruined.

Fragmentation defines a collection of textile pieces which visualizes the true, complete nature of the ocean through textural play in hopes to advocate against destructive activities to the oceanic ecosystem. Fragmentation demonstrates a realistic and optimistic mindset of ocean awareness through the juxtaposition of beauty and ruin. 

Inspired by various textures and forms of coral reefs (beauty) and ghost nets (ruin), fragmentation focuses on free-motion embroidery and knitting. Inspired by the colors of the sunset and the ocean collectively, fragmentation maximizes the use of pre-existing materials to apply the positive textile practice.
