THEME & COLOUR
Taking batik heritage as the main inspiration of Sacred Beauty, the theme of the scarf collection is contemporary culture with a romantic and philosophical meaning earnestly embedded into each design. As most batik patterns convey sacredness, Sacred Beauty aims to reflect feminine, pure, sacred, and romantic properties through tonal colours of dusty and bold greens, pinks and blues, such that they are harmoniously conjugated to illustrate clarity and femininity vis-à-vis batik philosophy.

IDEATION & PROCESS
Now, batik is a fundamental part of popular culture while overriding the traditional values it has long represented. As this is a growing concern that is often overlooked, the ideation of Sacred Beauty is based on my advocacy to enrich the culture of wearing batik. This project initially started with aiming to incorporate digital printing and embroidery. However, throughout the process, my passion for digital textile design routed this project to omit embroidery.

As I wanted to create something that is meaningful and versatile, in regards to my statement above, ideas of scarf production started coming along. The artistic processes involved include both hand drawing, digital illustration and manipulation.

By experimenting with editing techniques, I successfully created new motifs and patterns. Whilst doing the experimentation, the narrative ideation of designs started coming in. The scarves were designed based on a narrative I want to tell by utilizing both contemporary and traditional influences in blissful harmony.
